I’ve been a self-employed groundworks contractor for fifteen years. Most of what I do involves measuring — site surveys before quoting, marking out before digging, checking distances for drainage runs, calculating material quantities. For fifteen years I did all of it with a tape measure, a notepad, and whoever I could press into service to hold the other end.
