I have worn a navy suit to every formal occasion I've attended in the last decade. Weddings, christenings, work events, a funeral where I felt slightly underdressed in navy but wore it anyway because it was the only suit I owned. Navy is safe. Navy is reliable. Navy is, I have come to understand, also deeply boring.
When my best friend announced his wedding — a vintage-themed summer affair, garden venue, the kind of event where the invitation specifically said "dress to impress" — I decided that navy was not going to cut it. The Fitting

The day was warm — mid-twenties, full sun for most of the afternoon. The fabric breathed well enough that I was comfortable throughout, which for a polyester-viscose blend in summer heat is not something I'd taken for granted. After the Wedding
I've worn it twice since — once to a summer garden party, once to a work event that had a smart-casual dress code and where I decided smart-casual was an opportunity rather than a constraint. Both times it landed exactly as it did at the wedding: distinctive, considered, the kind of outfit that prompts questions rather than blending into the background.
The suit has held its shape well. The check pattern hasn't faded or distorted. The lining of the jacket is intact and smooth. For a suit at this price point, the quality is genuinely impressive.
What It Changed
I retired the navy suit. Not literally — it's still in the wardrobe for occasions that genuinely require something dark and understated — but it's no longer my default.
