By Callum Reid — Personal trainer, early morning gym regular, and someone who has very strong opinions about the right pair of joggers.
The Jogger Problem
I train clients from 6am most mornings. That means I'm up at 5:15, dressed and out the door before most people have thought about breakfast. What I wear matters — not in a fashion sense, but in a practical one. I need something that moves well, doesn't restrict, keeps me warm in a cold gym at 6am, and doesn't look so dishevelled that clients question whether I know what I'm doing.
I'd been through a lot of joggers. Thin ones that were fine in summer but useless in winter. Thick ones that were too warm once the session got going. Ones with waistbands that rolled down during squats. Ones with pockets too shallow to hold a phone. Ones that pilled after six washes and looked terrible. The search for the right pair had been ongoing for longer than I care to admit.
I came across the Regular Fit Fleece Joggers while looking for something to replace a pair that had finally given up after two years. The 60/40 cotton-polyester blend and the regular fit caught my attention. I ordered them without overthinking it.
Why the 60/40 Blend Matters
This is the detail I always check first. Pure cotton joggers are soft but they lose their shape quickly, go heavy when damp, and pill after repeated washing. Pure polyester is durable but feels synthetic against the skin and doesn't breathe well during exercise. The 60/40 cotton-polyester split in the Regular Fit Fleece Joggers is the right balance — soft enough to be comfortable all day, durable enough to hold its shape and resist pilling through regular washing.
The marl pattern is a practical choice too. Marl hides minor marks better than a solid colour and gives the jogger a slightly more considered look — it reads as a deliberate choice rather than a default. For someone who goes from the gym to the supermarket to a client consultation in the same pair of bottoms, that matters.
The elasticated waist with inner drawstring is the other non-negotiable. A waistband that rolls during exercise is a constant distraction. The inner drawstring means I can set the fit exactly where I want it and it stays there through a full training session, including anything involving bending, squatting, or lying on the floor.
First Wear — A 6am Session
I wore them for the first time on a Tuesday morning — a 6am session with three clients back to back, two hours of demonstrating exercises, moving around the gym floor, and standing in a cold building waiting for the heating to kick in.
The fleece kept me warm during the standing and waiting parts. During the active parts, it breathed well enough that I wasn't overheating. The waistband stayed exactly where I'd set it. The pockets held my phone and a pen without bouncing around. The fit was clean enough that I didn't feel underdressed for the client-facing parts of the morning.
By 8am I'd decided these were the ones.
Five Months of Daily Use
They haven't pilled. Five months of washing two or three times a week and the fleece is still smooth. This is the test that most joggers fail within the first month. The 60/40 blend has held up exactly as I hoped.
The shape is retained. The waistband hasn't stretched out, the hems haven't gone baggy, the knees haven't bagged. They look, after five months of daily professional use, essentially the same as they did when new. That's the durability I needed and rarely find at this price point.
They work for everything. Training sessions, dog walks, supermarket runs, working from home on admin days, casual evenings. The regular fit means they're appropriate in contexts where very baggy or very slim joggers wouldn't be. I've worn them to a client's house for an outdoor session and to a coffee shop for a meeting. Neither felt wrong.
I've bought a second pair. Different colour, same style. When something works this well, you don't look for alternatives — you just get another one.
The Difference It Made
I stopped thinking about what to wear in the morning. That sounds like a small thing, but for someone who's up at 5:15 and needs to be functional immediately, removing that decision is genuinely valuable. The joggers are always the answer. They work for whatever the day requires. That reliability is worth more than I expected when I first ordered them.
Would I Recommend Them?
To anyone who trains regularly, works in a physical job, or simply wants a pair of joggers that holds up to daily use without falling apart or looking terrible: yes, without hesitation. The fabric quality, the fit, the functional details, and the price make this an easy decision. Buy your size, wash them regularly, wear them constantly.
