I bought this hoodie on a grey Tuesday in October, slightly on impulse, because I was cold and fed up and my old zip-up had finally given up the ghost after six years. I wasn't expecting much. I was expecting a hoodie. What I got was, without question, the most-worn item of clothing I own.
That's not a sentence I expected to write about a sweatshirt. But here we are.
Why I Needed a New One
My old hoodie had been a faithful companion — a plain zip-up from a high street brand that had softened beautifully over the years and then, gradually, started to fall apart. The zip stuck. The cuffs frayed. The lining went bobbly. I kept wearing it anyway, because finding a replacement that felt as good seemed like too much effort.
When it finally became unwearable, I decided I was going to do it properly this time. I wanted something warm enough to actually replace a light jacket on milder days. I wanted a zip, because pullovers drive me mad when I'm too warm. And I wanted to know it had been made well — not just in terms of construction, but in terms of who made it and how.
Why This One
The Organic Sherpa Zipped Hooded Sweatshirt caught my eye because of the sherpa lining. I'd had fleece-lined hoodies before but never sherpa, and the difference in warmth-to-weight ratio is significant — it's genuinely insulating without being heavy or bulky. The organic cotton outer shell meant it would breathe properly and feel soft against the skin rather than synthetic and slightly sweaty.
The sustainability credentials mattered to me too. Organic cotton, ethically produced, the kind of piece that's designed to last rather than be replaced every season. I've been trying to buy fewer, better things for a while now, and this felt like exactly that kind of purchase.
I went with heather grey. Classic, goes with everything, hides the inevitable coffee spill.
The First Week
It arrived and I put it on immediately. The sherpa lining is the first thing you notice — it's soft in a way that feels almost indulgent, like wearing something that's actively trying to keep you comfortable. The outer shell has a nice weight to it without being stiff. The zip runs smoothly from the first use, which sounds like a low bar but is something I've been burned by before.
The fit is unisex and relaxed — not oversized to the point of shapelessness, but easy and comfortable. I'm a size 12 and ordered a medium, which gave me exactly the slightly roomy fit I wanted. I wore it to work on the Friday (I work from home, so the bar for acceptable attire is mercifully low), then out for a walk on the Saturday, then basically didn't take it off for the rest of the weekend.
A Full Winter Later
I wore this hoodie from October through to March. Not every single day — I said no exaggeration in the title and I'm sticking to it, mostly — but close enough that my partner started referring to it as "your uniform." On working-from-home days it was my default layer over a t-shirt. On weekends it replaced a jacket for anything that didn't require looking particularly put-together. On cold evenings in the house it was the thing I reached for before a blanket.
After a full winter of heavy use and regular washing, it still looks and feels essentially the same as when I bought it. The sherpa lining hasn't matted. The zip still runs smoothly. The colour hasn't faded. The organic cotton outer has softened slightly with washing, which has only made it better.
What I'd Tell Anyone Considering It
If you're looking for a hoodie that will genuinely keep you warm, hold up to daily wear, and not make you feel vaguely guilty about where it came from — this is it. The sherpa lining is the thing that sets it apart from a standard zip-up. It's the difference between a hoodie you wear when nothing else is clean and a hoodie you actively choose every morning.
I'm already thinking about getting a second one in a different colour for next winter. That's probably all you need to know.
The Verdict
Buy it. Wear it constantly. Thank yourself in February.
