Years of Toning It Down
I have always been drawn to the darker end of aesthetics. As a teenager I was fully committed – black everything, silver jewellery, band tees, the works. Then I got older, got a job, started worrying about what people thought, and gradually softened everything until I looked like a slightly muted version of someone else entirely.
It happened slowly enough that I barely noticed. A more neutral top here, plainer earrings there, the gradual replacement of things I loved with things that would not attract comment. By my late twenties I had a wardrobe that was perfectly inoffensive and that I felt almost nothing about.
The shift back started small. A black dress I bought on impulse. A silver ring I could not stop thinking about. The slow realisation that I had been dressing for other people's comfort for the better part of a decade and that this was, on reflection, a waste of a perfectly good aesthetic sensibility.
I started looking for jewellery that felt like me again. Not costume jewellery, not Halloween-adjacent novelty pieces, but genuinely crafted gothic jewellery with the kind of detail and intention that Alchemy Gothic has always been known for.

Six Months of Regular Wearing
