The Jumper That Became My Most-Reached-For Piece of Clothing

I’m not someone who thinks much about clothes. I have a wardrobe that works, I replace things when they wear out, and I don’t spend a lot of time or money on what I wear. Which is why it surprised me when I found myself reaching for the same jumper almost every day for three months straight.

The Jacamo Quarter Zip Jumper is the piece of clothing I’ve worn more than anything else I own since I bought it. That’s not something I expected when I ordered it, and it’s not something I can say about many things in my wardrobe.

What I Was Looking For

I work in an office that has a fairly relaxed dress code — smart casual is the expectation, which in practice means anything that isn’t jeans and a t-shirt is fine. I’d been getting by with a rotation of shirts and plain jumpers, but I wanted something that felt a bit more considered without requiring any actual effort to style. Something I could put on in the morning without thinking about it and know it would look right.

I’d also been finding that my existing jumpers were either too warm for the office or not warm enough for the commute. The quarter zip design appealed to me because it gives you some temperature control — zip up for the walk in, unzip slightly at the desk. It sounds like a small thing but it makes a genuine practical difference.

Why I Chose the Jacamo Quarter Zip

The Jacamo Quarter Zip Jumper came up when I was specifically searching for quarter zip jumpers that would work in an office context. Jacamo has a good reputation for producing well-made, practical clothing at reasonable prices, and the cut and fabric of this jumper looked right for what I needed — not too casual, not too formal, with a clean finish that would work with chinos or smarter trousers.

The colour options were also a factor. I went with a neutral that would work with most of what I already own, which meant I could wear it frequently without it becoming obviously repetitive.

First Wear — Immediately Right

I wore it to the office on the first day I had it. It fitted well straight out of the packaging — the shoulders sat where they should, the body length was right, and the sleeves weren’t too long. The fabric felt substantial without being heavy, and the quarter zip sat neatly at the collar without bunching or pulling.

By the end of the day I’d had two colleagues ask where it was from. That’s not something that happens with most of what I wear, and it confirmed that the jumper looked as good in practice as it had seemed online.

The Quarter Zip in Practice

The temperature regulation aspect works exactly as I’d hoped. I zip it fully for the commute, unzip it a couple of inches at the desk, and zip it back up for the walk home. It’s a small adjustment that makes the jumper comfortable across a wider range of temperatures than a standard crew neck would be. In an office where the heating is unpredictable — which describes most offices I’ve worked in — that flexibility is genuinely useful.

The zip itself is smooth and well-made. It doesn’t catch on the fabric, it doesn’t stick, and the pull tab is the right size to use easily without looking oversized. These are details that matter when you’re using something every day.

Versatility — More Than I Expected

I bought this as an office jumper, but it’s ended up being much more versatile than that. I’ve worn it at weekends with jeans and it looks completely at home. I’ve worn it over a collared shirt for smarter occasions and it works well in that context too. I’ve worn it on dog walks and it’s comfortable and practical enough for that as well.

That range of contexts is what makes it the most-worn piece in my wardrobe. A jumper that only works in one setting gets worn occasionally. A jumper that works in most settings gets worn constantly.

After Three Months of Regular Wear

I’ve washed it probably fifteen times at this point. The fabric has held its shape, the colour hasn’t faded noticeably, and the zip still works as smoothly as it did on day one. The cuffs and hem haven’t stretched or lost their shape. For a jumper that’s been worn this frequently, that durability is exactly what you want.

I’ve also ordered a second one in a different colour, which is probably the clearest possible endorsement I can give. When something works this well, having a backup makes sense.

A Note on Sizing

I ordered my usual size and the fit was exactly right — not too slim, not too boxy, with enough room to layer a shirt underneath without the jumper pulling across the shoulders. If you’re between sizes I’d suggest going up rather than down, as the fabric doesn’t have a lot of stretch and a slightly roomier fit is more comfortable for all-day wear.
