The Bathroom That Needed One More Thing
Last autumn I renovated my bathroom. Not a cosmetic refresh – a proper renovation. New tiles, new fixtures, a walk-in shower, matte black taps, dark wood shelving. I had a very clear vision of what I wanted: something that felt like a boutique hotel rather than a standard British bathroom. Moody, considered, a little dramatic.
I spent months on the tiles. I agonised over the tap finish. I sourced the shelving from a small joinery in Belfast. And then, when everything was in and the bathroom looked exactly as I had imagined it, I hung up my old towels – a faded beige set that had been with me since university – and the whole effect collapsed immediately.
