How a Little Black Cat Changed My Daughter's Bedtimes Forever

Miraculous Kwami Plagg Plush Toy — 15cm super soft black cat stuffed toy from Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir

My daughter Rosie is seven years old and she is, without question, the world's biggest Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir fan. I say this not as a boast but as a statement of fact backed by considerable evidence: the themed lunchbox, the themed water bottle, the themed pencil case, the three library books about the show, and approximately four hundred drawings of Marinette and Adrien that currently cover the wall above her desk.

So when she started asking for a Plagg — the little black cat Kwami who gives Cat Noir his powers — I knew this wasn't a passing phase. This was a considered request from someone who had done her research and knew exactly what she wanted.

The problem was finding one that was actually worth buying.

The Search

I looked at a lot of options. There are plenty of Plagg plush toys out there, but the quality varies enormously. I'd read enough reviews to know that some are poorly stitched, some have plastic eyes that come loose (a safety concern for a child who still occasionally sleeps with her toys), and some are made from fabric that feels scratchy rather than soft. Rosie has sensitive skin and I wasn't going to hand her something that would irritate her face at 3am.

The embroidered face is the detail that sold me — no loose plastic eyes, no safety concerns, just beautifully crafted stitching.

The Miraculous Kwami Plagg Plush Toy by Bandai stood out immediately. It's an official Bandai product — the company that holds the Miraculous licence — which meant the character likeness would be accurate (Rosie would absolutely notice if it wasn't). More importantly, the face is expertly embroidered with no loose parts or harsh plastic. That was the safety box ticked.

At 15cm it's the right size — small enough to fit in a school bag for show-and-tell, large enough to actually cuddle. The super soft outer fabric and the promise of skin-gentle material sealed it. I ordered it for her birthday.

The Moment She Opened It

I've been a parent for seven years and I've watched a lot of presents being opened. Most of them get a smile, a thank you, and then get set aside while the child moves on to the next thing. Rosie opened the Plagg box, went completely silent for about three seconds, and then made a sound I can only describe as a controlled scream. She held it up, looked at it from every angle, then pressed it against her face and said “it's so soft” into its fur.

She named him “our Plagg” to distinguish him from the Plagg in the show, which I found very touching. He came to dinner that evening. He came to school the next day in her bag. He has slept in her bed every night since.

Four Months On

Plagg — our Plagg — has now been part of our household for four months. He has been washed twice (gentle cycle, air dried, came out perfectly), carried to school more times than I can count, taken on a weekend trip to her grandparents, and subjected to the kind of enthusiastic affection that only a seven-year-old can deliver.

Four months of daily use and he still looks like this. The quality has genuinely held up.

The embroidery hasn't frayed. The fabric is still soft — if anything, slightly softer after washing. The shape has held. There's no sign of the stitching coming loose anywhere. For a toy that gets this much use, that's impressive.

The bedtime change is the thing I didn't anticipate. Rosie used to resist going to bed — not dramatically, but there was always a negotiation, always one more thing she needed to do. Since Plagg arrived, bedtime has been easier. She takes him upstairs, tucks him in, and settles herself. I don't fully understand the psychology of it, but I'm not questioning it.

Who This Is For

Any child who loves Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, and any parent who wants to buy a gift that will actually be treasured rather than forgotten. The official Bandai licence means the character is accurate, the embroidered construction means it's safe for all ages, and the super soft fabric means it's genuinely pleasant to hold and sleep with.

Official Bandai packaging — it looks as good as a gift as it feels to receive one.

It also makes an excellent gift. The packaging is clean and presentable, and for a Miraculous fan, receiving the official Bandai Plagg is a very big deal indeed.

I've bought a lot of toys over seven years of parenting. Very few of them have made the impression that our Plagg has. If your child loves Miraculous, this is the one to get.
